What Is The Process For Renumbering An Item?

The UOM Conversion is incorrect on an item, how do I fix this?

UOMs can only be changed on the item record if there is no activity associated with that item. If the item with the incorrect UOMs does have activity associated with it, the item can be renumbered while still retaining the original item code by renumbering the item code with the incorrect UOMs, recreating the original item code with the correct UOMs and then moving all stock, on order, returns, on B/O and committed from the bad item code to the new (recreated) item code. This renumbering process can be accomplished by completing the steps below:

  1. Renumber the item with the bad UOM to a different code (i.e. - code was C10 renumber to ZZC10). Renumbering can be done by a single item or can be done for several items at once by utilizing the “process from spreadsheet” function.

System Administration > Mass Updates > Renumber Processing > Renumber Items
  2. Create a new item with the original item code with the proper UOMs. (i.e. - C10)
  3. Remove all on hand, on order, returns, on B/O and committed from bad item code (Via Adjust Inventory).
    1. You will need to make note of any existing SOs, POs etc. that the item is on prior to conducting the Adjust inventory.
  4. Move all on hand, on order, returns, on B/O, and committed to new item code (Via Adjust Inventory)
    1. You will need to reassign the material to existing SOs, POs etc. with the recreated item code once the Adjust Inventory has been done.
  5. Unset the Active Flag in Item Maintenance on the Branch Settings tab for bad item code. This will keep the renumbered item code from showing up when entering sales orders.
  6. Export usage from the bad item code (i.e. - ZZC10)
    1. From Stock status use the View/Update usage button, then Export
  7. Import the usage for the new item code (i.e. - C10). From Stock status use the View/Update usage button then Import. This will allow you to run reports for open SO, Quotes, PO on the old item code (ZZC10).
  8. Make sure to run your 'Data Warehouse Update' afterward to update your stored data.
